CreArt INVITED TO PARTICIPATE AS EUROPEAN EXPERT, IN A FORUM ORGANISED BY THE ASIA EUROPE FOUNDATION, TO BE CELEBRATED IN CEBU, PHILIPPINES, ON 25 JUNE.

2015-05-14

CreArt has been invited by the Asia Europe Foundation (ASEF) to participate in the forum organized by the Creative Cities Network in Southeast Asia (SEACCN), which will be held on June 25 in the Philippine city of Cebu. The invitation is an International recognition for this European project coordinated by Valladolid.

ASEF is a non-governmental organization established by the governments of Asia and Europe in 1997 to encourage networks and strengthen Asia - Europe ties in the cultural and creative sectors and others.

The Southeast Asian Creative Cities Network (SEACCN) is a network for creative cities and clusters in Southeast Asia. This includes representatives from the cities, agencies, specialists, experts, groups and communities. The initial members include George Town (Penang, Malaysia), Bandung (Indonesia), Cebu (Philippines), and Chiang Mai (Thailand). It is an open group but with a focus on SE Asia and a particular focus on so-called “second cities”, but SEACCN welcomes collaboration with other organisations and cities including those in the rest of Asia or Europe. The network was informally founded in April 2014 in Chiang Mai and an MOU was signed in August 2014.

REGARDING THE FORUM:

The Forum is a part of the Creative Industries Week of the Cebu Business Month (CBM). Now on its 19th year, the CBM is an annual event of Cebu Chamber and business sector held every June, and its activities this year focus on the influx of opportunities brought about by the ASEAN Integration. With the theme GLOCALIZED CEBU, CBM 2015 aims to provide a platform to establish networks of local interactions and global connections to stimulate a transnational business community.

This CBM 2015 Creative Industries Forum hopes to continue leveraging creativity and develop the creative industries as a means to generate growth, diversity, income and employment. This will also promote the understanding of the cities’ role as hubs for ideas, innovations, and new services within their local environment.

According to the organisers, one of the interesting developments in the 21st century has been the evolution of networks, particularly in the culture sector. Cultural networks have emerged as an important tool for improved cross-border cultural communication and greater international co-operation. This model has been adopted by cities in Asia and Europe to strengthen partnership, co-creation and collaboration between cities with a focus on creativity as the driving force for economic and social development.

In this context, this panel will address the following key questions:

1.       What are the current trends, challenges and issues in the development of strong medium-sized cities network? What are specific concerns for Asia and Europe?

2.       How can such networks enable knowledge exchange and enhance connectivity between cities? Are there any innovative examples that could serve as inspiration?

3.       Can such networks bring the policy makers and practitioners together to address the emerging urban challenges through creativity?
