Communication plays an important function in contemporary society and a decisive role in the artistic context. On the one hand, it gives visibility to artists and their works, allowing them to reach different audiences and renown [who and what is not seen does not exist], on the other, the media attention may confer some banality to art and raise “massive presence” to artists, facts do not always favor their prestige and recognition.

The CreArt European Exhibition Notes on tomorrow” will be presented in Aveiro (Portugal) on 28th October in the following exhibition spaces: Galeria da Antigua Capitania, Museu Arte Nova e Museu de Aveiro Santa Joana. CreArt organized last Friday, April 10, the European meeting "CreArt. A new way to develop culture in medium-sized cities" in the Valladolid City Council.
After the selection of our project in 2012 by the EACEA of the European Commission, the CreArt cities have developed an intense program for the promotion of artistic creation. These activities include the set-up of a professional system for the mobility of artists and their artworks among the different CreArt cities; the organization of artist in residence programs; workshops leaded by renowned visual artists; seminars and conferences with the participation of European experts and University professors; travelling European exhibitions; and a research study about the contribution of artistic creation to local development. In total, 154 artists from the CreArt Network have directly participated since we started our program of activities.

CreArt, European Network of Cities for Artistic Creation, expresses the absolute need for Europe to become committed to the development of a new space for creation, based on the principles of inter-territoriality and the collaboration among all the agents of the creative process: artists, managers, technicians, politicians and citizens in general. The work methodology developed by CreArt is centred on a real exchange of ideas, work in common and a maximization of the benefits derived from the collaboration between public and private institutions from different cities and countries. This methodology is here offered to all those agents interested in making the process of artistic creation a real catalyst for innovation, not only today, but also for the future of our continent.

Travelling guests will have to arrive in Kristiansand the evening before, and leave in the morning after the conference.

New ways to manage and finance creative spaces in Europe

In the last decades Europe has witnessed an important increase in the number of creative spaces. Some of them are official, with landmark buildings erected in many cities; others are alternative, being also very necessary for creation.

In a situation of crisis, which is not only financial, we need to rethink and analyze how to maintain and develop fundamental principals, such as the importance of culture in our society, so that it can still be considered a basic element in the life of citizens. Nowadays, intellectual European referents such as André Malraux have not lost their relevance, as when he said that “culture is the sum of all the forms of art, of love and of thought which, throughout the centuries, have enabled man to be less enslaved”.

The CreArt European Exhibition White Noise Black Words  will be open next Friday 3rd October in Miercurea-Ciuc (Harghita, Romania) after travelling during the last three months along Vilnius (Lithuania) and Zagreb (Croatia). The Exhibition will be presented in three different exhibition spaces along the city until 30 November: Harghita County Council’s Art Gallery, Art Gallery from Kossuth Lajos street and Pál art Gallery. Opening will take place in Harghita County Council’s Art Gallery at 18:00 PM with the presence of Mr. Kelemen Hunor, Cultural Minister, leaders of Harghita County Council, CreArt coordinators in Harghita County and Valladolid and also some of the artists selected.

ABOUT KAUNAS

New deadline to apply until 24th January

Luca Vitone will be the Director of the second Artist Workshop organised within the framework of the EU funded project CreArt (Network of Cities for Artistic Creation). The workshop coordinated by the Municipality of Genoa will take place during 17-21 March2014 in the Museum Villa Croce of Genoa.  Artists born or resident in any of the CreArt cities will have the opportunity to participate in this 5-days workshop to share, learn and exchange artistic experiences together with other artists from the CreArt Network (Aveiro, Delft, Linz, Vilnius, Pardubice, Kaunas, Lecce, Kristiansand, Arad County, Genoa, Harghita County and Valladolid)

The CreArt Network of Cities for Artistic Creation have been working hard – promoting art, artists and creativity within European cities. They have been holding public seminars, exhibitions, workshops, and facilitating exchange between European cities. But why? Why do we need art in the city? Surely we have enough art already – in the museums and galleries. Surely during this time of crisis what we really need is a growing economy?

The CreArt Network challenges this distinction. It challenges the assumption that the ‘economy’ is independent of culture. It also challenges the assumption that art is not a part of the economy, or cannot play a role developing the economy.

Atelierhaus Salzamt in Linz (Austria) has opened the Open Call to participate in the Artist in Residence programme for 2014 organised within the framework of the EU funded project CreArt (Network of Cities for Artistic Creation). On Saturday December 14th, 2013, the seminar “Shifting Artist-in-Residence Strategies” will be held in Delft within the context of the CreArt Project and with the collaboration of a number of partners*.

Artist-in-residences (AiRs) are a changing phenomenon. Hosts and guests develop new strategies or they reinvent the ways they operate. This process is necessary because of shifting economic, political and cultural circumstances. Some AiRs opt for interdisciplinary research, others for integrating artistic goals with commercial activities. Some focus on the specificity of their location, while others try to connect to the needs of other parties. Which new artist-in-residence strategies are developed? What are the consequences for collaboration, programming, funding? How can networks, cultural organizations, funds, and governments connect to these developments?

Projection of reality through the artistic vision is a sine qua non aesthetic principle that reality can become more than a reality.

Human specific,  artistic creativity is an unlimited resource that provides the lifeblood necessary to achieve great works of art ... and beyond.

Perfect agreement of this reality, the European cultural project CRE-ART - Network Cities for Artistic Creation, reveals the growing importance of the role that culture plays in the landscape of modern Europe today and also emphasizes the huge potential that intercultural dialogue can access in the context of cultural diversity and the increasingly apparent need for information and communication at the regional and / or local level.

CreArt is a real nomadic project, it is a flow without limit that connects artists to curators, projects to places, ideas to cities, thanks to the strength of art and its codes. These codes are those of painting, sculpture, installation, video, photography but not only this. Using the words of the italian curator and critic, Germano Celant, “you can make art with everything and everywhere, without limit of language and land”. By now this is a fact. Today the exhibition “More real than the real”  by Ilaria Bonacossa, arrives in the spaces of Palazzo Vernazza-Castromediano in Lecce. The exhibition, on the initiative of the project CreArt, in cooperation with the Department of european and youth politics, and the department of culture, tourism and entertainment of the Municipality of Lecce.  We are in the heart of the city, Palazzo Vernazza is maybe one of the most fascinating places of our region,  rich of history of the community of Salento and Apulia.
